GrabCAD Print Version Management
GrabCAD Control allows you to change how often you and your team receive updates for GrabCAD Print with the Version Management tool.
How does it work?
If you are using GrabCAD Print while logged in, the app will notify you when a new version is available. A new version is available every month, and by default, this is the update frequency.
If you are logged into GrabCAD Print and you belong to a GrabCAD Control company account, the notifications for updates are determined by the setting from the Version Management tool in GrabCAD Control. The default frequency for Version Management is monthly, but less frequent options are available, described below.
The setting applies to all users in the GrabCAD Company Account. If you do not belong to one, you will continue to receive monthly updates.
How do I access Version Management?
You must be a company admin to access the Version Management tool.
Log into GC Control at https://company.grabcad.com
- If you reach GC Control, you are an admin and may proceed to the next step.
- If you see a “Not Authorized” message, you belong to a company account but are not an admin.
- If you do not belong to any companies, you will see the screen below. Click on GrabCAD Control to request a company account. GrabCAD Customer Support will either create a new company account or add you to an existing one if applicable.
How do I change my update frequency?
Once you’ve reached GC Control, click the Version Management tool on the left side:
Set your desired frequency and click Submit:
Important Note:
Since this is a company setting, it’s important to make sure all your team members who use GrabCAD Print belong to the company. Head to the Users tab to manage and invite users if needed.
What update frequencies are available?
Monthly Updates:
This is the default frequency of updates. The GrabCAD development team works on a cadence for updates that concludes with a new version every month. The release is tested internally, then it is released to a handful of customers on the Early Visibility program, and finally it is released generally. The date of general availability is noted in the Release Notes.
Quarterly Updates:
These updates will happen four times per year: March, June, September, and January. The release for each quarter will be based on the version released in the previous month to avoid conflict with the monthly releases and for additional testing.
For example, the first Quarterly release is June 2025, and will be based on the May 2025 monthly release (1.102).
In most cases, the Quarterly version will be the same as the corresponding monthly version, differing only in the final part of the build number. In cases where additional issues can be resolved in the time between the releases, these may be included. As such, an update may be required when switching from monthly to quarterly releases.
Industry Vertical Updates:
If a quarterly release includes features pertaining to a specific industry, as determined by the GrabCAD Product Owners, it will be included in the Industry Vertical updates.
Industries available today include:
- Medical
- Dental
The Industry Vertical update will occur alongside the Quarterly update only when it contains relevant features for the Medical or Dental application Stratasys printers. Therefore they will have a maximum of four updates per year.
How does Version Management affect the PolyJet Job Manager?
Each GrabCAD Print version has a corresponding PolyJet Job Manager version, which for the J3/5-Series printers also includes the printer firmware. These updates always become available at the same time as GrabCAD Print. Meaning, when a new Print version is available, a new Job Manager version is available.
This relationship does not change with Version Management. Every Print release will continue to have a corresponding Job Manager release available simultaneously, regardless of the update frequency. However, this is why it’s imperative that all GrabCAD Print users belong to a company account together. If a user does not belong to a company, they will receive the Monthly releases, and may update their Print or the printer’s Job Manager ahead of the update frequency set in GC Control.
Other notes
How can I tell what versions are in each release?
The Release Notes will specify the release date for each stream. Under the main heading for the version, the specific release numbers and dates are listed.
How does Version Management affect OpenAM?
The OpenAM app is not supported by Version Management and updates on a separate cadence from GrabCAD Print.
Is this feature limited to any specific printers?
No, Version Management is a feature of the company account and affects GrabCAD Print generally, regardless of which printers you use.
Can my company have multiple versions set?
No, the setting applies to the whole company. If you need to have different users on different versions, you must set up multiple company accounts.
What if I need more control for updates?
An alternative to Version Management is scripted installations. Your IT department can choose when and what version to deploy using tools such as SCCM. Read more here.
