Shutting Down the Printer

You only need to shut down the printer if it will not be used for more than 10 days. Otherwise, the printer can remain on, in Idle mode. However, if there is a need to turn off the printer sooner, use the Shutdown wizard to automatically perform the necessary processes before turning off the printer.

To properly shut down, the printer needs to perform several processes, depending on the length of time that the printer will not be used. These are controlled by the Shutdown wizard. Unless you are unable to run this wizard (because of a software error), do not shut down the printer by simply turning off the power at the switch or by disconnecting the power to the printer.

Caution
Turning off the printer for an extended period without first running the wizard can cause serious damage to print heads and other expensive printer parts.

Depending on the length of time the printer will not be used, you can choose the most appropriate shutdown procedure.

•   Up to 10 days: The wizard powers down the printer without draining the print block. Use this option if you need to turn off the printer for servicing.
•   10 to 30 days: The wizard empties the print block of Model and Support material to prevent leaks and to protect the print heads. This takes about 10 minutes.
•   More than 30 days: The wizard empties the print block, then flushes the system with cleaning fluid. This takes up to 35 minutes, and you must be present to load cleaning-fluid cartridges when instructed.
Important:
For J5 DentaJet XL printers, changing the print mode requires running the Shutdown wizard with the More than 30 days option and then performing a system power-up by a service engineer.
To minimize downtime, contact your Stratasys service provider to schedule a service visit.
Do not try to load material without a service engineer as it might adversely affect printer operation.
To run the Shutdown wizard:
1.   From the Wizards screen, select Shutdown or press the printer power button for 2 seconds (not more).
2.   Select the option corresponding to the length of time that the printer will not be used.

Note:  Before selecting More than 30 days:

•   For J5 DentaJet XL printers, this option requires a system power-up by a Service engineer. Contact your Stratasys service provider to schedule a service visit.
•   Make sure that six (6) cleaning-fluid cartridges are available, each containing a minimum of 250 grams.
3.   In the next screen, verify that the tray is empty and click Next.

The shutdown procedure begins.

4.   When shutting down the printer for an extended time, turn off the main power switch at the back of the printer.
